Clean Monday or (ΚαθαράΔευτέρα) marks the first day of lent in the Eastern Orthodox Church.
It’s considered to be the first day of Spring and Greeks traditionally celebrate the day through outdoor activities and picnics, dancing, eating lots of shellfish, and the flying of kites.
