George Economou collection-metaxourgeio
The Old Silk Factory building of Metaxourgio has undergone an intensive five year build and restoration to be transformed into Athens Municipal Art Gallery. Originally designed by Danish architect Hans Christian Hansen in 1883, this historic building( to which the Metaxourgeio district owes its name) has seen many uses over the years- silk factory, garrison, shopping centre and hospital.
In the beginning of 2011 it showcased a unique collection of art works belonging to businessman George Economou.
